Mgahinga
Gorilla Trekking (3)
Mgahinga National
Park, covering an area of 33 sq km
is found in South Western Uganda,
about 14km from Kisoro town. The park
is occupied by the rare mountain gorillas
whose trekking is the major activity.
This gorilla habitat is in Kisoro
district where tracking takes place
in the plentifully forested Virunga
Volcanoes.
The Safari Itinerary to Mgahinga National
Park
Day 1: Kampala to Kisoro
Drive a distance of 540 km from Kampala
to Kisoro and have your overnight
at Mgahinga Safari Lodge or Travelers
rest.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in
Mgahinga Forest
After an early morning breakfast,
the guide leads you through the gorilla's
world, explaining features of their
ecosystem and behavior. Gorilla trekking
is the most thrilling and remarkable
experience that takes one through
a thick tropical forest for the whole
day. The Nyakagezi group (tourists
group) consists of 9 members; 3 adult
females, 2 silver backs, 2 juveniles
and 2 infants. (Tracking can take
three to eight hours). This exercise
can be tiresome so one has to be in
a good physical shape. It is prudent
that you wear good foothold shoes
suitable for mud-covered places and
carry binoculars for easy look. Spend
the overnight and dinner at Mgahinga
Safari Lodge or Travelers’ Rest.
Day 3: Departure for Kampala
Have an early dawn breakfast and drive
back to Kampala to your accommodation
for overnight and dinner. Take a lunch
stop in Masaka Town at Brovad Hotel
and then proceed to Kampala where
you will arrive in the evening.
